ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Accommodation will be at the charming Hotel Leitnerbräu. Located in the centre of the village, the hotel is a small family-run establishment, with a fabulous breakfast buffet including “full English” if required.  There are several excellent eating places nearby.

Concerts will be at the “Schloss”, a stone’s throw across the road from our hotel. We will have good, middle-priced seats, and your price includes complementary interval drinks and a full programme book.

Mondsee is a picturesque village on the shores of the Mondsee, in the Salzkammergut and about 20 km from Salzburg. Its Monastery is the third-oldest in Austria, and the former monastery church is Mondsee’s parish church, It is well worth a visit, if only to view the setting of the wedding scene in The Sound of Music. The Mondsee Smoke House is situated on a hill behind the church where you can see rural traditions in an authentic setting. A trip on the lake is worthwhile, and there are attractive walks in the locality. Rail enthusiasts might like to visit a museum commemorating the days (long gone!) when Mondsee was connected to Salzburg by train. The bus station is the departure point for trips to other local attractions, including Salzburg, St Gilgen, St Wolfgang and others.

Flights will be by Easyjet, and your price includes a 20kg baggage allowance.  You are advised to buy refreshments before boarding at Gatwick, but seating is at least as comfortable as British Airways, and somewhat more reasonable in price!

THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR

WEXFORD FESTIVAL OPERA

1ST NOVEMBER TO 6TH NOVEMBER 2011

Following our very successful visit to the Wexford Festival Opera last year, a number of members asked for a return visit this year. This seemed a good opportunity to participate in the 60th anniversary celebrations, and enjoy again their new theatre, with its good seating and acoustics. We are promisd the usual excellent fringe activities of operatic performances and musical events. We shall have five-nights in a four-star hotel near to the opera house with a full Irish breakfast included each day. Also included is a full day out by coach with a local guide and two lunches.  The three main operas the festival is performing this year are: La cour de Célimene (1855) by Ambroise Thomas, a comic opera in two acts sung in French; Maria (1903) by Roman Statkowski, a tragic opera in three acts sung in Polish, and Gianni di Parigi (1876) by Gaetano Donizetti, a melodrama in two acts sung in Italian. Surtitles in English are used for all performances. I do hope you will be able to join the group of members.
